What is the lamest reason for giving up on Ubuntu/Linux youve ever heard? – Ubuntu Forums

Saturday, September 27, 2008 Leave a comment

As I am looking at the specs of the acer x3200 and therefore trying to figure out if a future install of Ubuntu, on my possible future machine? Is going to give me headaches in the future? Point being that I am getting a awful lot of crap coming my way. An example: “These search terms are highlighted: ubuntu These terms only appear in links pointing to this page: acer x3200 ” So where are they?

For one thing I am interested in the low power consumption of the previously mentioned gadget! Secondly I can use the regained space for other useful matters

Anyway after logging into the Ubuntuforum to do some similar searches, I stumbled upon this thread: What is the lamest reason for giving up on Ubuntu/Linux youve ever heard? – Ubuntu Forums which finally made me giggle, at last!

An Intelligent Challenge for Intelligent Design « Gospel of Reason

Sunday, September 21, 2008 2 comments

After finishing up my previous post. I returned to reading the Gospel of Reason blog. After having read a few interesting posts I came upon this one: An Intelligent Challenge for Intelligent Design « Gospel of Reason.

Before I continue on and tell you all about my imperflected view of the subject I was referring too in the previous paragraph. I like to sidetrack a lot while reading, therefore links I have followed may not seem consistent to you? Why? Because I do tend to be more of an observer than a giver of criticism! At least that’s one good reason and there are probably a lot more. The word Imperflection however could be food for thought or material for a new post?

On a side note: Have I ever told you that besides sidetracking whilst surfing, I do seem to leave gaps and or holes into my arguments or reasoning?  One therefore could easily conclude that I am either a lousy debater or just very bad at communicating my points of view.  Possibly and perhaps (partially) true?  What is more probable is that I have left myself a note in the form of a journal post.  A sort of reference point I can refer to later on in life?  Just to see the before and after like a form of comparison?  Intriguing and yet indubitably:lol:

Anyway the links I have followed thus far are:

  • manipulative events?
  • Nobody in the science community will try and force someone not to believe in Intelligent Design, the notion of a higher purpose in the universe. Nobody will say a word about how the parents tries to educate indoctrinate their child within the realm of their home and/or church (although perhaps they should).

And of course its derivatives!

Does all this mean that I am (or think that I am?) ‘highly educated’ (sometimes I’d just wish that were so!) or that I know how to use Google? I probably am guilty on both accounts. But to be sure, I think it is because I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and the fact that I like to share this! ;-) Maybe it is an ‘unique’ peak in how my brain works or perhaps it isn’t!? Perhaps one could note that I am a easily distracted person?

Other then that the previous mentioned blog I believe to be quite insightful! But the same could be said for this one for after study.

Damn sometimes I wish I had that book again, the one in which $author? Aah Lawrence M. Krauss I presume, explained in detail which aspects of the Star Trek series were plausible versus implausible!? Speaking of the same author, another good book from his hand is Atom. Both of them are actually highly recommended to read!

Kindest regards,

Alex

Just a few reasons why one could consider a switch to an alternative O.S.

Obviously this post will be related to:

This one, this one and this one

Besides your own points of view which may/might or may not/might not be useful to you? I’ll give you an imo some recommended reading. Anyway I think it is astonishing for me to see how I have distracted myself, by going from a search for either a new slick like looking desktop or similar looking net/laptop, to me reading about the history of computing!

Btw… to refer to my initial search, what I want is at least 2GB of ram, a 160GB HDD. a dual core processor with at least 2.0ghz and an Ubuntu O.S. running out of the box! Something like this has my preference or a Dell E Slim for on the road plus I might want to consider a Bubba|Two? The latter option would fit into the category of having an either more safe and secure desktop/laptop experience or the simple fact that I don’t want to pay too much for my utilities anymore!

Judge for yourself!

Kindest regards,

Alex

Fractals are cool stuff!

As I often cruise around Deviantart to check out and to awe the works of several artists. I came across this picture. It seems like a 3D rendered object yet it is a ‘fractal’? Until now I hadn’t heard of it. Shame on me. :-(

SSL is pretty cool!

For a service that I don’t consider real expensive. I do think their offerings are! ;-) I don’t see my ISP provide me with an ssl enabled backend (yet)?

Another nice new feature included with your FREE wordpress account is to blog ad-free from now on! I am curious to know what other nice features (which are either gratis or with a reasonable small fee.) are going to be released in the future?

Can You Trust Your Computer?

Sunday, September 7, 2008 Leave a comment

As I was reading through these articles. I stumbled upon this rather paranoia provoking article!?

Who should your computer take its orders from? Most people think their computers should obey them, not obey someone else. With a plan they call “trusted computing”, large media corporations (including the movie companies and record companies), together with computer companies such as Microsoft and Intel, are planning to make your computer obey them instead of you. (Microsoft’s version of this scheme is called “Palladium”.) Proprietary programs have included malicious features before, but this plan would make it universal.

I already suspect that this has all been said before (many times)? So there’s really nothing new for me to report perhaps?

I suppose so, besides parroting others perhaps and not posting new threads on the forum that send me there in the first place?

So when does repetition start to bother people and when will it start to bother me? The moment perhaps that such schemes don’t exist anymore? Considering here that at least a part of the story is true? Like a gold fish in his bowl complaining about the temperature of the water he’s in?

In my defense I can say that it has been my choice to switch to a free O.S. because of ‘issues’ I’ve have had when I ran Windows XP on my ‘owned’ and bought with my own hard earned cash now beginning to become ‘developed’ in years computer.

I don’t ‘hate’ windows or win users in any way (as I have been one before, therefore I’d be saying that I hate myself?). I just don’t agree with the policies (or perhaps lack thereof?) inherited by using said system.

Signing off,

Alex

PS: Yes, this is what preoccupies me in my leisure time and no, you will not be able to change that!
