Third school of Thought….

<Start of shameless plugging!>
Anyway I have been on my Ubuntu box for quite some time now! See post. But sometimes I do feel the need to use some windows applications.
(perhaps?) Like for instance a native windows installer program for my printer I just somehow can’t get to work under Ubuntu. (Lexmark x83) Believe me, or don’t?, I’ve tried.
The only working solution for now for me to boot into windows, which in my case would involve opening up my machine and switch cables. (I don’t dual boot anymore!) Therefore you might possibly conclude that this technical acrobatic style of mine isn’t something I want to repeat often.
But after some extensive research
(ahem) I actually stumbled upon it while browsing through my packages.
Is the Wine compatibility layer for running windows applications, as if they were native
to Linux. Still it could require a lot of work to get some apps going, but even for this there is an open solution which comes with a small price. Namely the CrossOver project!
Since I am considering buying myself either a new laptop or desktop in the not so far future. I am thinking about turning pro
. That way I am able to give a little back to the community of which I have taken so much already.
<End of shameless plugging!>

Alex
