Transliteration…

I am quite the nerd! I used to adore cryptography passing along secret messages and that sort of shite when I was younger! One thing I have always hated to do when I use(d) my computer to write? This was to pick special characters from the drop down menu of any word or text editor or even use a visual keyboard for that matter! The reason for such inefficient use of any software would be my stance.
Which is that if and when I have or want to write in a foreign language I want to do this as quickly as possible! No buts this time as in well that’s interesting but…. Or why do you have to use these languages? Why not just stick to your mother tongue or English as a second (and try harder in expressing yourself in it?)? In short why go through all the trouble?
Well the truth is that I like diacritics a lot! English and Dutch don’t seem to have many. 
and since the spelling reform of last year a lot of those so called words with extras have lost their diacritics which in my opinion contributes to a loss of the words phonetic significance.
For example:
‘Appel’ and ‘appèl’ the first being ‘apple’ and the latter referring to a ‘roll call’ are two different words in Dutch and they’re only identified by their sound! I strongly believe that the written word should follow its phonetic equivalent in speech. How to do so would depend on country, culture and used orthography. Me a grammar nazi and I should probably get laid more? Well, you probably are right about that last bit? But no I am LMAO when I read about people talking about the weight they give for instance to the way you spell English or better put how good you’re at it. I mean: two, to and too do sound a lot alike to me! Of course I understand that the way you spell any word makes the reading more understandable but I am sure that out of the context of a sentence you’d be able to understand what someone is referring too!
Not to worry though English, Dutch, and other Germanic languages don’t seem to make sense when you compare their spelling with the phonetic equivalent of what the used grapheme is supposed to express. I am fairly intelligent and can comprehend the differences but that wasn’t the point I wanted to make!
If I want to respect and understand another human beings language, culture and geography than I might as well learn to write properly! So don’t make it so hard dammit to do so!
Anyway in a way I am a utilitarian so I’ll always try to find the ’shortest’ route between point A and B. Sometimes I use the grand detour to get there but as long as it suits me in giving me the end result I want than that’s fine by me.
On my personal page given by my provider to use as a sort of playground. I’ve made a few pages there that would enable a person to type in the language desired using the corresponding English spelling for the sound made in the other one’s spelling. This process is called transliteration. Unfortunately my provider doesn’t provide me with PHP enabled pages. So I have made use of the less than secure method of JavaScript. I would be an asshole if I claimed to have created the used script which is a simple find and replace as you type script. Its origin can be found here! ‘My project’ is far from complete but should let you know what occupies me in my leisure time.
Have fun? Or better yet improve the script by ’stealing’ its source code ripping it apart and put back together in a more useful fashion as in less is more.
